Google maps burst onto the world stage providing ordinary individuals
satellite images of urban areas in Australia. This has made it very
easy to navigate or find places online with the aid of your computer or mobile device.
One of the issues with internet mapping was if you ever wanted to send somebody a link
to a location the URL could sometimes be over 100 characters long and if the link
was broken the map would not be displayed.

A local Australian company Social Horizon has developed the Amap.to service which tweaks Google maps
so individuals or business can use it in a more personal way.

The tinyurl service which was pioneered by Twitter allows you to
take  maps long URL and give it any name, like "My house" or "My business"
You can even add photo's or videos into the personalised map.

aMAP.to allows the sender or recipient to add travel related information layers from
an in-built database of over 4 million local points of interest.
The points of interest can include Wikipedia articles, hotels and local tours.

This site adds a new dimension to sharing map based information and could change the way we
use mapping programs in the future.

With amap.to it will make it easier to find places and people, just be careful what you put on the
map to much of your personal information can be dangerous.

Check out the website and start sending out your personalised maps.
