The first version of the Universal Serial Bus (USB) was created in 1996.
With the advent of this teknology the days of manually installing device drivers ended, thankfully.
This teknology allowed the system to auto detect and install drivers on the fly.
Plug and play was born and the connectivity of peripheral devices was now a simple procees.
Nearly all peripheral devices today are usb you sometimes need a USB hub to connect all of them
to your computer.

The teknology of USB has not stood still USb 3.0 is now upon us.
The first USB 3 controller chips were sampled by NEC in May 2009 and they should be
starting to roll out in new devices, laptops and computers.

The transfer speed that USB 3.0 device promises is dazzling, USB 1.0 had speeds of 1.5 Mbit/s
USb 2.0 has speeds of 480 Mbit/s, whereas USB 3.0 promises a maximum throughput
speed of 4.8 Gbit/s. Making large file transfers super quick.

The Western digital My Book 3.0 is one of these new devices that has USB 3.0 capability.
This external device ships with a 1 (TB) of hard disk space and a USB 3.0 PCIe (gen2) adapter card.
just in case your motherboard does not support the new standard. The External drive gives you
ample space to store your data on and has the blistering transfer speeds as a bonus.
To install the Pcie card you will have to open up the pc and and insert the card into the motherboard.

The thing to remember is that although you have a USB 3.0 device your laptop or
computer motherboard will need to have USB 3.0 ports before you can reach those lofty speeds.
Otherwise you will revert back usb 2.0 speed.

If you are in the market to buy a new PC laptop this year one of your questions should
be is this device USB 3.0 enabled?
