The Infamous game is a combination of plat forming, shooting, puzzles, and RPG elements. As Cole you need to defeat the evil forces that have taken over the Empire City. At the start of the game you get to see a massive electrical explosion that sets Empire city in a chaotic state, with gangs forming alliances to rampage the city.  Cole an everyday deliver guy discovers that the package he delivered was the cause of the explosion. The Empire city gets barricaded off with no access to or out of the city. Employed by a FBI agent to prove you innocence, you set yourself on the task to restore the city to its former glory and get some answers to the disaster.

Cole's primary means of interaction is through the electricity-based powers. These include shooting electricity from his hands to nearby targets, creating an electricity-based shield to repel enemies, as well as push objects in the direction that you release you electrical blast and you can create a delayed explosion of a ball of energy much like sticky grenades. Cole can extract electricity from nearby power to refuel his cells. Problem is at the start of the game most of the city’s power is down so you are limited in areas where there is no electricity.  One of the tasks throughout the game will be restoring powers to the city fraction at time.  As you complete the main goals, side missions will be presented, both as independent missions, and as karmic choices and this where it all gets interesting.  There are two sides of this game you either complete the game in a hero style as in GOOD, or infamous as in EVIL player. This is tracked through a karma system which influences the growth of Cole's powers. If you continue on a good path the powers will be more accurate hence less destruction but you will have the support of citizens and police. However, if you decide to take the path of evil you will have more reckless and powerful powers causing more destruction with each electrical strike but you will be ignored by citizens and police will try to hunt you down. Powers will be gradually unlocked but each power has three different stages. To unlock 2nd and 3rd stage you will need to purchase them with you XP points which can be collected by completing missions, killing you enemies, achieving stunts and so forth.   What I love about this game is that once you complete the game in a Good mode which may take up to 25 hrs for 100 % completion to  achieve a Hero status,  you can repeat it in a Evil mode  so you become Infamous.

Technical side of the game, graphically it matches anything on the market, there are few grey areas but all the action makes up for it. There are some frame rate issues but it does not ruin the overall image the developer has achieved in the game.  Sound is really good especially if you have a 5.1 surround system it creates a nice atmosphere and the explosive scene sound much more realistic.

Pro’s:

  • Storyline
  • Great sound
  • Comic book-inspired cut scenes and animations.

Con’s:

  • A.I  average

Rating out of 100:   85
