As I have been looking at netbooks I thought I would look at the higher
end of the market. Looking about I noticed the Acer Ferrari One Netbook
and thought this would be the perfect opportunity to take a Ferrari for a
spin! Also probably about as close as I will come to owning a
Ferrari...
Well Acer\'s Ferrari One, even though Acer calls it a Netbook, seems to
straddle between being a Netbook and an Ultra Portable. It could be
considered a larger Netbook or a smaller Ultra Portable. Personally I
find the extra screen real estate and the slightly larger keyboard to be
very attractive from a functionality standpoint. Acer and Ferrari have
teamed together to make a very well built machine. From the moment you
pick it up you can feel the quality and sturdiness of the unit. Alot of
thought has gone into the little things to heighten the nature of the
Ferrari you hold, from the Ferrari red top with distinctive yellow badge
to the wheel shaped feet it rests on.
Under the hood the Acer Ferrari One Netbook sports an AMD Dual Core L310
1.20GHz 64-bit processor, a massive 4GB RAM, an 11.6" screen with
1366x768 resolution powered by an ATI Radeon HD3200 graphics card and
plenty of storage on the 500GB hard drive. It has WiFi and Ethernet for
connecting to networks, a multi-card reader, an ATI HGP port for
connecting to external video displays as well as the VGA port and 3 USB
ports. Dolby speakers produce good sound when listening to music or
watching video. The hardware definitely packs a punch when it comes to
the offerings of other Netbooks but does not quite reach the offerings
of some Ultra Portables. The battery will see you through about 5 hours
of use which is again not as long as most Netbooks but longer than most
Ultra Portables. So it seems Acer has gone for the middle ground with
the Ferrari One Notebook, err I mean Netbook, and with great results.
Running all this hardware is Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. This of
course comes with all the usual extra\'s of Windows 7 and Acer has added
it\'s own suite of applications for the Ferrari One. There are also
trials of Microsoft Office 2007, Nortons Anti Virus and Online Backup
included. Of course with Acer\'s Ferrari One hardware specs, running
applications is a breeze and it will handle alot the more demanding
games, although you might want to attach an external monitor for that.
The unit will generate a bit of heat during use which can be common in
Netbooks and the glossy cover, even though it attracts fingerprints,
hides them well.
Acer\'s Ferrari One is an excellent and well constructed Netbook that has
quality system specs, as you would expect for a Ferrari. A little
pricier than
some of the competition but then again the competition is not a Ferrari!
Your chance to own a Ferrari and turn heads. It will definitely stand
out while you relax sitting at a cafe.
